Work life balance is a key topic many people talk about when considering careers, jobs, etc. There are many stages to your career and life and those can have an impact on what you want to do professionally or what you need to do job-wise.
Climb the ladder
When you are in the process of climbing the ladder to pursue a dream career, many times you have to take jobs or certain steps along the way to build your experience that will make you a perfect candidate to land that dream job/career.
- You may need to pay your dues. It’s great if you can have great work/ life balance but if you have a chance at that dream job in the future, don’t be afraid to take a position where you have to put in a lot of hours. This can enable you to build a name for yourself in your field and can also give you outstanding experience that leads to that dream job.
- Don’t be afraid to take a position now, that will enable you to land that position on the next rung in your ladder in a few years. Many times you have have to take a few jobs along the way as you move up the ladder.
- When looking at jobs and positions see how a job or any job that you can land will be a vital part of you “climbing the ladder”.
Work life balance
If the job comes with a nice salary and good hours and vacation time, this can be the right mix allowing you to meet your financial needs and goals and at the same time have nights, weekends and vacation time to pursue dreams, family, travel, additional side income and more. You may be able to build a path where you eventually can work for yourself and have the freedom you desire. (A note about working for yourself: Before you pursue that down the road, talk to people who have done it. You may find they work more and have more stress. They have more freedom and flexibility but typically more demands and stresses.)
